OUR EXPORTS.
The New Zealand Shipping
Company (Limited) have compiled a most comprehensive table of exports
from this Colony from July Ist, 1888, to 30th June, 1889. During that period 37 steamers, of 98,095 tons register, and 120 sailing vessels, of 115,975 tons register, left the several ports of this Colony laden with our produce for Europe. It is very satisfactory to learn from this table that the port of Wellington stands high on the list of exports. We sent away during the above period more beef, wool, and skins, flax and tallow than any other port, while w« stand second on the list for our export of frozen mutton. The figures being—For mutton : Lyttelton, 289,715 carcases ; Wellington, 233,298. In ether items in which we stand first the figures are—Beef, 28,874 quarters ; bales of wool and skins, 62,019 ; bales of flax, 27,019 ; packages of tallow, 9749. The total exports from the Colony for Europe during the 12 months were as follow : -1-Mutton, 1,055,301 carcases, or 60,923,0081 b weight; beef, 43,526 quarters, or 7,512,5901 b weight ; bales of wool and skins, 277,423 ; bales of flax, 42,118 ; sacks of wheat, 479,115 ; packages of tallow, 23,182 ; tons sundries, 17,859^.
