WORK.
The progress made in. the House on Monday was exceptionally good, and must almost amount to what is known in the sporcing world as a‘ c a record.’ In the afternoon 15 local Bills passed their final stages, and at the evening sitting a number of Government measures were also passed and good progress made with others. Altogether, about twenty Bills were disposed of, and, apart from the number dealt w ith, it must be borne in mind that local Bills'- are now virtually done with. To have to congratulate the House upon its work is unfortunately a novel experience, and it is to be hoped that the proceedings for the remainder of the session will be transacted with the same due regard to the value of time as was evinced yesterday. Full and free discus, sion must always be allowed, of course, but three or four days a week are invariably wasted in useless talk. In the present case the House has been in session more than two months, and little ox - nothing had been done up to the end of last week.
