A CURIOUS CIRCUMSTANCE.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, July 15. Averycuriona circumstance is r e P to have caused great excitement amongst the Natfielj ° residing at the W.itetuna Maori settlement, near Whatawhata. Recently a young man died and was buried according to Maori custom, but about a week ago his body was discovered lying on the coffin lid upon Ihe top of his grave the remains having been exhumed and the grave filled in. It is said that the wife of the deceased has been demented since her husband’s death and that she exhumed the body, whilst others assert that it. has been done by Europeans, who wish to friuhten the Natives out of the settlement. The occurrence has caused a great sensation, and a number of the Natives have left the district. , », ■
