THE CITY PROPERTY-TAX ASSESSMENT.

The following summary of the cases dealt with by the Board of Reviewers at the sitting of the Court on Tuesday and Wednesday last will bo of interest to our readers. It is conclusive evidence that the valuation of the city by Mr T. Kennedy Macdonald for tile Department has been most carefully carried out. lu no previous assessment has there been such general satisfaction at the 1 fairness of the valuation, while the small number of objectors and the comparatively insignificant character of the few reductions made was remarkable. At the close of the Court the Chairman cf the Board of lieviewer:: (Mr Edward Pearce) congratulated Mr Macdonald on the way in which his valuations had borne the test of review.

The effect on the revenue i 3 a reduction of only £3 7 14s 7d per annum in the total taxation of the city . Out of over 10,000 assessments of property in ths city, the number of individuals who appeared to support objections was only 37. The main increase in the valuations has been in the reversionary interests of absentees in valuable leaseholds, which have been valued on a new basis, and greatly added to the revenue of the Department.
