The Maori football team defeated tho Widnes (Lancashire) Club yesterday by twq goals and two tries to a try. Lqnpqn, March J2. The Maori Football team defeated Manchester by two goafs and a try to a try. The annual meeting of the Wellington | Football Club was held at the Post Office Hotel last week. There was a large attendance, and Mr P, P, Webb presided. The following new members were elected—Messrs Ginders, Burnes, Allen, Lorimer, Mcßetb, Penn, Tripe, Tanner, Hodson, BrabazoD, Galbraith, Swainsoo, Hector, Izard, Black, Bee and Atkinson. The annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The report showed that last season the first fifteen had played seven matches, winning one, losing one and drawing five. The second fifteen played 15 matches, winning eight, losing five and drawing two. The balancesheet showed a credit balance of £34 5s 3d, and slight deficiencies in the gymnasium and sports funds had been met with grants from the clab’s funds. It was explained that the weather was wet on the occasion of the sports, and this had caused the deficiency in the sports fund. Reference was made to tho loss the Club had sustained by the removal from the city of Mr J. M. Lightfoot. It was stated that a team would be sent to Christchurch at Easter. The election of officers resulted as follows :—President, Mr W. H. Levin ; Vice.

presidents, Dr Collins, Messrs N.W. 'Werry and C. A. Knapp ; Captain, Mr J. E. Smith; Seoretary, Mr E. L. Burnes ; Treasurer, Mr F Pownall; Committee, Messrs Morgan, G*. Hume, Stock, Elliott, A. C. Atkinson, Fairbrother and Duncan ; Match Committee, Messrs Richardson, Reader and Smith; Delegates to Union, Messrs Smith, A. C. Atkinson and Burnes. It was decided to keep the gymnasium on for another year, and that a special meeting should be held to consider whether the annual sports should take place. Messrs C. Kreeffc and P. P. Webb were elected life members, and Messrs Barker, Lightfoot, and Batkin were added to the “ retired members’ ” list. Mr Webb briefly thanked the members of the Club for the kindness they had shown him in the many offices he had held in connection with the Club. . , The Poneke Football Club have received a letter from the Grafton Club (Auckland) asking if the match between the two clubs, arranged lor Easter Mondaj, could be played on the following day. The Ponekes have decided to accede to the request. They will therefore have their hands rather full at Auckland, as they have to play Grafton on Tuesday and Ponsonby on the following day As the Ponekes have definitely decided to make the tour a communication to this effect will be sent to the various clubs challenged. We understand that with the exception of one or two players the Club s best team will get away.
