JOHNSONVILLE TOWN BOARD.

A meeting of .the lohnsonvilla Town Board was held at the Board office last week. Present —Commissioners Atkinson (chairman), Powell, Smith and Springgay A discussion ensued as to the appointment of Mr J. Jury as roadman ; and on the motion of Commissioner Powell, seconded by Commissioner Springgay, it was decided to cancel the appoint* ment, the Board appointing a roadman. A letter from the Hutt County Council was read, stating that the Council had no power to hand over the control of the main road running through the Johnsonvillo Town District to the local Board. Proposed by Commissioner Smith and seconded by Commissioner Powell, That the Clerk be instructed to write to the Hutt County Council, requesting that the Council would define the main road through Johnsonville,and at the same time to draw attention to the dangerous state of the road at the junction of the old Porirua and Ngauranga roads. Carried. A letter was received from the Hutt County Council' applying lor the contribution, amounting to L 37 13s, due by the Board to the Council for hospital and charitable aid expenses for year 1888-9, and on the motion of Commissioner Springgay, seconded by Commissioner Powell, it was decided that the letter should be held over for consideration of the Board for one mouth. Proposed by Commissioner Smith, and seconded by Commissioner Powell, that the Board take steps to obtain all necessary information, &c,, as to obtaining a site for a recreation ground in Johnsonville. Carried. Proposed by Commissioner Smith, and seconded by Commissioner Springgay, that the question of appointing a roadman be adjourned for one month, and that the Chairman be authorised to employ any necessary in the meantime. Carried. Three tenders were received for Burgess-road contract—A. Mildenhall, L 59 17s 6d ; F. Taylor, L 95 ; J. Barnes, LlOl 2s 6d. Proposed by Commissioner Powell and seconded by Commissioner Spriggay—That the lowest tender be accepted, the work to be proceeded with as soon as the necessary agreement between the property-owners on the road and the Board has been signed. Carried. Proposed by Commissioner Smith and seconded by Commissioner Springgay—That the Chairman, Commissioner Powell and the mover be appointed a Finance Committee, to make any necessary arrangements connected with the Board’s finances, and to report at the next meeting. Carried. The rate 3 received amounted to L 3 13s 7d. Accounts amounting to L 8 16s were passed for payment.
