CRICKET.

A cricket match was played on New Year’s Day at Te Puhi.'Mr W, H. Levin’s residence at Featherstou, between a team chosen from the employes of Messrs Levin and Co. and an eleven brought together by the Messrs Bidwill, of Pihautea Station. The game resulted in a win for the town team by ten wickets, mainly owing to the splendid play of H. Moorhouse. The following were the scores :—Levin and Co. —First innings, 108; second innings, 4 for no wickets ; total, 112. Messrs Bidwill’s team, —First innings, 29 ; seoond innings, 82 ; total, 111. For the winners, H. Moorhcuse scored 67 (not out) in the first innings, and caught and bowled nine in the second inming9. For the losers, C. R, Bidwill and Holmes Warren made 34 and 19 respectlvely, and F. Maunsell took four wickets. There were about 200 people present, and great interest was shown in the play.
