The Christmas vacation has, as usual, given an impetus to the migratory portion of the community, and, in consequence, the intercolonial,, and more especially the ooastal passenger trade has shown a deoided increase since ‘ last Summary. To lovers of a holiday trip the Union Company usually offer a strong inducement in their excursion arrangements, viz., a low rate of fares and-a liberal allowance of time; and this year their tariff is quite as liberal as heretofore. There has been an increase also in the cargo trade between Wellington and Australian ports, the demand for Australian products having become brisker as the season advanced. The wool traffic is now in full swing, and vessels are being loaded and despatched fortnightly. Since last Summary, the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s chartered barque Peru has been sent away wool-laden for London, also the same Company’s chartered barque Banklands, and the New Zealand Shipping Company's barque Chili. They will be followed shortly by the ships Margaret Galbraith and Orari, the former on behalf of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, and the latter by the New Zealand Shipping Company. The ss Bucephalus, a large cargo boat, chartered to carry a stock of West Coast horses to the Indian market, has visited this port during the past mocth. Her dimensions are as foII9W : —Length, 276 f t; breadth.of beam, 36ft 2in; depth of hold, 21ft 9in.
