The children's singing class belonging to St John’s Presbyterian Sunday school gave a carol service at the ohurch on Friday evening. They were assisted by the choir of the church as a “second choir,” and were placed on a raised platform immediately in front of the choir gallery, a very pretty effeot being produced by the children being uniformly dressed in white. The carols were all well sung, the children singing with . great vigour, aud withal with muoh expression, but amongst the best numbers were the opening song “ God rest you, merry gentlemen,” Come tune yonr hearts ” and- “ Good King Winceslas.” The latter, an antiphonal hymn, in which the alternate verses were sung as treble and tenor solos with chorus, was a very tuneful number and was most affectively given. The solos in it were taken by Miss Gardner and Master Evans. Several antherns were sung by the choir during the evening, and . solos were given by Misses McGowan and Drummond, the former lady singing “He shall feed his flock’’ (Messiah), aud the latter, *f Ring out Wild Bells.” Mr Wilson also sang *•*Nazareth.” Mr England, tho choirmaster, presided at the organ, and Mr Ropkirk conducted the service. The latter gentleman may be congratulated ou the proficiency which his, choir has attained undor his supervision. A collection was taken during the evening for the choir fund. The attendance at the Wellington Bowling Club’s green on Saturday was not large, on account of the threatening aspect of the weather. The ground was, however, In fine condition, and those players who did attend had some very good games. The rinks played were—No, I—Messrs Lindsay, Blackett, K. Wilson and Campbell (skip) against Messrs Letham, Eliott, Crombie and Dr McGregor (skip), Mr Campbell’s team scoring a win by 21 to 15. Changing skips, placing Crombie in place of Dr McGregor, and Maskell'instead of Lindsay, the victory was on the other side by 21 to 7. Rink No. 2—Messrs Sloan, Edwin, G. S. Wilson and McGlashan played Messrs Reid,' Barron, Gray and Scoullar, Mr MoGlash'an’s team winning two games by 21' to 20, and by 11 to 10. Rink No. 3—Messrs Hutohens, Blundell,.
