At a meeting to-day of mice masters, it was decided to follow a policy of inactivity. It wap, however, hinted that probably a number of foreign miners would be introduced, and the masters expressed their willingness to listen to any proposal the men on strike had to make, provided such proposal was made before the foreigners were introduced. The carpenters’ strike is not likely to assume the dimensions at first expected. Adelaide, October 9.
The liquidators of the Commercial Bank will shortly commence legal proceedings against the Directors of the bank for the recovery of moneys lost through alleged culpable mismanagement on the part of the Directors. Nearly all the available legal talent has been secured by the Directors for fhe defence of the action. Arrived —Austral, from London. . Sir Arthur Hunter Palmer, President of the Legislative Council, has been sworn in as Acting-Governor. The employes of the 'I pany have struck for increased pay. The public are much inconvenienced owing to the tramways haying stopped running.
