ANNUAL MEETING PORT NICHOLSON YACHT CLUB. The annual general meeting of tho Port Nicholson Yacht Club was held at the Pier Hotel Wednesday. There was a fair attend, ance, and Mr A. G. Johnson was voted to the chair. The Chairman stated that he regretted the absence of Mr Levin, the Com* modore, Mr Mills, the Yice-Commodore, and Mr Quick, Rear-Commodore. He apologised for each of these gentlemen, who he said were unavoidably' absent. Letters were read from the Secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association forwarding a copy of the Club’s rules, and from the Secretary of the Wellington Rowing Club relative to the proposal to hold a two days’ regatta. The annual report, whioh was adopted on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr E. C. Mills, stated that the season 1887-88 was a very successful one. The opening ceremony was taken part in by about 40 yachts, and the evolutions, which were organised and carried out under the supervision of the Yice-Commodore, Mr E. W. Mills, and which were witnessed by a very large attendance, excited a lot of interest, and were executed in a very satisfactory manner. The yaohts competing for Club trophies had been classified to the satisfaction of owners and all concerned. Messrs .Widdop and Millar were deserving of the Club’s best thanks for the manner in which they had carried out the duties of time-keeperand starterrespectively. Through / the courtesy of the Secretary of the Harbour I Board a notice board had been placed on the I Queen’s Wharf, which should prove a great convenience to members, as on it will be placed the latest information in regard to yachting. The Committee heartily thanked Mr Levin for his gift of a handsome oak drinking case, for competitionto yaohts on the Club’s register only, aud Mr E. W- Mills for a magnificent engraved silver cup. Iu the Club’s handicaps, the first class yacht race was won by the Xarifa, with the Florence second. The second-class yacht race was won by the Elaine, with Pet and Maid tie for second place. The Vulcan won the third-class yacht race. -- A second series of handicaps for second aud third-class yaohts only were also carried out. In these the winners were - Pet, taking Mr Grady’s cup and the sweepstakes, aud in the third-class the Vulcan, taking £2 in money. The Club was stated to be In a good position financially, the surplus in assets being £23 6s ldj and the cash balance in hand'£lß. The annual regatta was mentioned as having been held, and was stated to havo been a pronounced success. In conclusion, the Committee congratulated the Club on its commodores, to whose interest in the Club the past successful season was in no small degree due, The officers of the Club were all re-elected, with the exception of tho auditors, Msssrs W. R. Morris and L. Bios being e’eeted to the latter office. Mr A. A. Duncan was unanimously re-elected as secretary, the Chairman remarking that the sound position of the Club, both financially and otherwise, was in iiQ small degree the result of his untiring zeal and careful management. A hearty vote of thanks was nnssed to Mr Ferguson, the Secretary of tho Harbour Board, for the zealous and kindly interest whioh he had taken in the Club’s welfare during the year. The letters from the Secretary of the Wellington Rowing Club relative to the two days’ regatta oame before the and an irregular discussion on the matter took place. Ultimately the following resolution, proposed by Mr W. R. Morris, seconded by Mr G, Mee, was carried : “That this meeting adopt the resolution passed at the meeting of the citizens held on 28th ult., and appoints the officers with the secretary and Mr E. C. Mills to confer with the members of other olubs as to the advisableness of holding a two days’ regatta in January.” The question of opening day was left to the Committee to decide, but it is hoped that an arrangement may be made by whioh all the clubs can participate.
