It is proposed to preserve fish alive by placing them in vessels partly filled with water and hermetically sealed. It is said that fish so oonfiued have been found alive after three weeks, without either air or water having been changed, while fish in an open jar died in forty-eight hours. If the ai*- in the vessel is compressed the life of the fish is still further prolonged. Among the ornaments on the supper-table at the Vanderbilt reception, given recently at Newport, was a large owl ou a perbh. This owl was composed of 750 pieces of sugar and almonds, the eyes alone containing bO nieces A chain of confectionery, made in flotation of silver, held the bird to his perch.
