A "Tennyson Settlement” is to be founded in Cape Colony. The pioneers of the project will be several families from Southern England, who start in June for their new home. James’ new shops on Lambton-quay. There were several tastefully-arranged stalls, which were covered with a profusion of useful and ornamental articles. They were presided over by the following ladies; —Mesdames Howorth and Kennedy, Misses M. Kennedy, C. Campbell, A. Mills, H. Mills, Branfill, Ross, Crespin, Ingham, Brandon, and[ Stewart, the whole being under the supervision of Mrs Snow, to whose energy the success of the bazaar was largely due. There was a good attendance at the opeuing and also during the afternoon and evening. There were the usual atsraotionß of a bran tub and fairy well, both of which were well patronised. The promoters had decided not to hold any raffles, and consequently a number of the articles which were not sold will have to be disposed of privately.
