COOK LICENSING COMMITTEE.

The annual meeting of the Cook Licensing Committee was held at the Council Chambers ■ yesterday at noon, there being present Messrs P. Coffey (chairman', E. G. Willeston, J. Petherick, and J. E. Hayes. Inspector Thomson and Sergeant-Major Morice represented the police. Licenses were granted to Andrew Barry, Clyde-quay Hotel, and W. F. Richards, Caledonian Hotel. An application was made by Rebecca Tabor for a license for the Albion Hotel. Inspector Thomson asked why the application was made by Mrs Tabor nowthat her hu=band had returned from England. Mr Tabor explained that he had noc made the application as he might be called away to England at any time. Tho explanation was considered satisfactory, and tho iioense was granted. In the case of Patrick O Shea, who applied for a liceuse for the City Hotel, Inspector Thomson pointed out to the Committee that a conviction for Sunday trading had been obtained against the applicant in March last. Mr Devine, who represented Mr O’Shea, said his client had been convicted for a technical breaoh of the law. The license was granted. With reference to air Daniel Dealey’s application for a license for the Cricketers’ Arms Hotel Inspector Thompson stated that the house needed repairing. Mr Devine informed the Committee that tho necessary repairs would be gone on with at once. The hotel had been purchased by Mr Hamilton Gilmer, who, however, had not yet obtained a title. Tho Committee adjourned tho matter for a fortnight in order that the work of executing the repairs might be commenced. Renewals of licenses were granted as follows : Benjamin Cohen, Prince of Wales Hotel; John Shanahan, Army and Navy Hotel ; Henry Wright, Cambridge! Hotel ; Benjamin Oxner, Princess Theatre Hotel; Walter Charles Wilson, Grosvernor Hotel ; Charles Plimmer, Tramway Hotel; Samuel Parkes, Newtown Hotel. Extensions toll o'clock were grauted in each case, except that oE the Tramway• Hotel, which the licensee did not desire to keep open after 10 o'clock. The clerk was instructed to procure copies of Mr C. B. Morison’s treatise on tho Licensing Act. The meeting then terminated.
