Effingham haß purchased Long Roper from Mr Limbriuk. The sum paid is said to be £125. The horse is a half-brother to his cross-country horse Chemist. The events he won were the Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire Handicap, Hardwicke Stakes, Eclipse Stakes, Kempton Jubilee Stakes, and the Champion Stakes.

It is said that the committee of the Aus. tralian Jockey Club ate going to consider the advisableness of registering only those clubs and race meetings which give upwards of a certain sum to run for annually, and the idea is, perhaps a good one. Under the present systems, all meetings, in order to prevent horses taking part in them being disqualified, muse be registered, no matter how small the prize-money may be ; and although it is proposed that 1)hoy shall not be again licensed, the rule will probably be so altered that horses running at these unregistered meetings will not be placed under the ban.
