It is announced tn this side that his object in coining is to superintend the publication of.a Targe illustrated work on the Pacific Islands and the Panama Canal,; which will be dedicat/d to M. De Leaseps. This statement/ 'received' with polite -incredulity by those who know the enterprising spirit of the hon. gentleman ; and is regarded as quite au insufficient explanation of the reason for a six months’ stay in-England, -[Reports states that the real'motive for his ebming is to secure the position of resident managing director in Loudon foi the New Z/aland Midland Railway Company, which is likely to he a very well paid position.
