MR BOARDMAN’S REMARKS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND MAIL. ■ Sir, —As some misapprehension appears to exist in relation to the words uttered by Mr Boardman at Dr Newman’s meeting at Thomdon, on Tuesday last, I will, to the best of my recollection, repeat his remarks. I must begin by saying that the words “ swindling men and swimming men ” were not uttered. The following are, as nearly as possible, the words actually used r—“ The present depression of the- Colony was partly due to past political swindles. This constituency does not want a representative who will have to do with a swindle, or who is a good

political swimmer. It wants a man who will set his foot on any swindle, and who will do his best to see that the floor of the House of Representatives is not turned into a swimming bath.” Will you be kind enough to insert this ? —I am, &c., Adino Boughton, . Chairman of Dr Newman’s meeting. 'Wellington, Ist September.
