NEW MUSIC.
Jubilee March,” by George Robertson (Wellington). Published by W. H. Glen and Co., Melbourne, and W. H. Spiller, Wellington. This is an exceptionally good and effective march, which is sure to be popular whereever it is played. There is a bold stream of melody running through the whole work, and the rhythm is marked with suitable distinctness, which cannot be aaid of all modern marches. Mr Robertson’s march is of the Scotson-Clark school, and possesses that school’s characteristic of melodious brightness and telling effect, combined with facility of execution. The themes are fresh and pleasing, and the progressions natural and unforced. One or two slight errors have crept in, through evi--dent oversight—e.g., consecutive octaves in the harmony—bat these are so obvious as mot to be misleading, and they will doubtless be corrected in the next edition. Mr Robertson may be congratulated on having produced a march which is a march, and which is certain to be a general favorite.
