A WARNING TO LOCAL BODIES.

At the Supreme Court to-day, the case of Meskell v. the Tuapeka County Council was -concluded- This was a claim for £498 damages caused through plaintiff losing his -horses, waggons, etc., through alleged negligence of the Council in not keeping the punt -on the Molynenx in good order. The County Oounoil had passed regulations limiting the .load to be put on the punt, which was only re-established while a bridge was being built. The plaintiff had more than thia load, rbufc the Judge held that the County could no more divest itself of responsibility for the -punt than it could for -the road. The jury -returned a verdict for the plaintiff Meskell •for £4OO and costs.
