ATTEMPT TO ASSASSINATE THE CZAR.

The Standard of to-day publishes a telegram from its St. Petersburg correspondent stating that an unsuccessful attempt has been made to assassinate the Czar. No details have yet been received. an official denial. London, March 14. The statement published in today’s Standard, that an attempt had been made on the life of the Czar, is officially denied in St Petersburg. In the House of Commons to-day, a question was put to the Under-Secre-tary for Foreign Affairs regarding the report that an attempt had been made on the life of the Czar. In reply, Sir James Fergusson stated that the Go-
vernment had been informed from St Petersburg that several persons with bombs in their possession had been arrested at different points along the route which it was expected would be taken by the Czar yesterday whenproceeding to the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, to attend a requiem service for the late Emperor. His Majesty had attended the service without any attack being made upon him. St. Puteesbtjbg, March 14. Six of the persons who were arrested with bombs in their possession at different points of the route which it was supposed the Czar would take, prove to be students.
