THE NELSON ANNIVERSARY.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Nelson, February 1. The 45th anniversary of Nelson was observed to-day as a close holiday. The friendly societies’ fete was well attended, the sports bringing out a large number of competitors. The mile race was won by Hodge, (Wairarapa). Time, 4min. 49 2-5 secs. Parker, (Wanganui) 2 ; Waite, (Taranaki) 3. Half mile race, Henry Laud, (Nelson) 1 ; Carson, (WaDganni) 2 ; Waite, (Taranaki) 3. Anniversary Handicap, Monnock, (Wellington) 1 ; Poole, (Blenheim) 2 ; Thompson, (Nelson) 3. Two miles walking handicap, Hodge (Wairarapa), 1 ; Guy INelson), 2; Connol (Nelson) 3. Two heavy t showers occurred during the afternoon.
