A LITERARY TROUBLE.

(united tress association.) Dunedin, January 31. At the annual meeting of the Athenaeum Committee, the question of supervision of books allowed to go into circulation came up. Tbe local Dapers had drawn attention to a book being in circulation which was forbidden by Messrs Mudie and Messrs Smith and Sons, London. It appears that the Committee allowed the book to go out until Bomeone complained of it, when it was laid aside. In the present case Profeseor Brown said that the book objected to had been taken out by forty subscribers, and no complaints bad been made. Altera Blight discussion, the matter dropped. The publication of an article condemning the book caused it to be in great demand, and the local booksellers sold out , -copies of the work, which had scarcely ever been inquired for before.
