POST OFFICE ROBBERY.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Bussell, December 14. The man named Joe Hood, who has been arrested on suspicion of being connected with the Post Office robbery at Ohaewai, has long been suspected of other robberies in the district. Since the arrest a man named Halliday has also been taken into custody, and news has been received that he has turned Queen’s evidence. Amongst other amounts stolen is £3O belonging to the Postmaster, Mr Clemett, £l9 belonging to the Waimate Race Committee, and some £8 Iss belonging to the Postal Department; also, cheques amounting to £56 ; m all, £ll4, Detective Twohey passed through Russell today and it is surmised that he is engaged on the job. It is thought that before long all concerned in the robbery will be arrested. The prisoners already captured have been remanded to Russell for eight days. Auckland, December 14. The burglary at Ohaewai Post Office, Bay of Islands, last week, is being inquired into by the police. The safe was found m the bush, about £6 being stolen from it, but the stamps left. J. Hood has been arrested on Bnspicion.
