THE WELLINGTON ALMANACK.
The Wellington Almanack for 1887 _ has been issued, the present being the thirtythird annual publication. Every effort has been made to pack as much useful information as possible into a small compass, and to ensuieaccuracy. Severalchangesofconsiderable importance have been made in the Almanack. The long sailing directions which in previous editions have taken up a great deal of space, have been omitted, and only the the latest directions, which have not yet been incorporated with “ The New Zealand Pilot,” are published. Boom is thus made for a quantity of other information, and the Fencing and Impounding Acts are published in full for the benefit of country settlers, to whom they are of great importance. . The directions in eases of emergency or accident are largely, amplified, and full details will be found of the proper treatment of • the apparently drowned, and of those suffering from sunstroke and other sudden seizures. The proper steps to save life from drowning and in many other cases are also detailed. A feature of the Almanack is the department entitled “The Household,” in which a number of useful recipes are given. In addition to the dates of historical events in the calendar, there is a record of what happened during the last two mouths of 1885, and the greater part of the pvesentyear. The information respecting local matters in Wellington is extensive and has been compiled with great care. Additions and corrections have been made to the Directory, which is now full and accurate. The District Guide has also been carefully revised and corrected. The table of contents has received a good deal of attention, and there is no difficulty in finding in a moment any information in the book.
