LAND BOARD.

An ordinary meeting of the Land Board was held (in the Crown Lands office yesterday morning. Present—Messrs J. W. A. Marchant (chairman), H. Bunny. A. Reese, W. W. McCardle, and W. A. Fitzherbert. The schedule of lands showed that 2032 acres 1 rood 32 perches had been sold since last meeting at an upset price of £2173 6s Bd. Mr C. Couchman, selector of section 1, Block 1., Kopuaranga, applied to transfer the same to L. Mattson. Approved. Applications from J. C. Hay, selector of section 15, Block XII., Oroua, and C. T. Simpson, selector of section 55, Block XIII., Pohangina, to capitalise, were approved. The only tender received for section 50, Block 1., Makuri, was that of Mr E. T. Greville, which was accepted. Mr J. R. Anderson applied for land adjoining the Pohangina River aa a small run. It was resolved that a survey be made at the cost of the applicants for the approval of the Board ; otherwise all lands in vicinity to be surveyed at as early a date as possible. An application was received from Mr A. McDonald for land as a small run in the Gorge Survey District. The Board decided that .the lands in the district should be offered as soon as possible, excluding that portion reserved for forest purposes. The, Crown Lands Ranger reported that improvements to the extent of £5 had been effected on section 28, Block Y, Kopuaranga. It was resolved to offer the lands by auction on deferred payments, weighted with £5, at as early a date as possible. Further correspondence relative to the alleged partnership between Messrs Adams and Phillipson of section2,Block IV., Kaiwhata, was submitted by the Chief Commissioner, and after considerable discussion it was decided to obtain information from the Hawke3 Bay authorities as to land held by Mr Adams. It was also resolved that the Commissioner be authorised to take steps to remove Mr Simpson, the present occupant, from the section. The Greytown Borough Council and the Waiohine Road Board applied for the Crown lands north of Greytown West to be vested in them at once, as they have decided to pay Messrs Fuller and Gallagher the £34 a 3 compensation for improvements. It was resolved that proof be given of payment and a survey be made before vesting the land in the local bodies. Mr T. Moore wrote, asking the Board if they would fell,|clear, and fence the boundary linebetween Bectioa3 377 and 382, and 378 and 352, Block XIV., Mikimiki. The Board decided to send a reply that they would be glad to assist him if possible. A declaration having been received that the original license had been lost, it was resolved to issue a new one to Mr Sanson for section 1599, Block IX., Kaiwanga. Mr C. Phillips applied for a fencing boundary at Dry River, adjoining sections 86, 76, 75, and 74. The Ranger’s report on the matter was read, and it was resolved that the land be surveyed and offered to the public—road access to be provided. The Wairarapa East County Counciland MrW. H. Beetham wrote, objecting to the islands inthe Wainagawa River being leased and disposed of. The Board resolved to cancel previous resolutions with reference to disposing of the lands. Mr H. Carroll wrote with reference to acquiring two pieces of Crown Lands near the Moroa Native Reserve, Alfredton. It was resolved to let the matter stand over till surveyor’s plan was received. Mr W. Wilson applied to be allowed to take up section 5, Block XI., Mangaone, on deferred payments, although he has held sectipns on deferred payments and perpetual lease systems already. It was resolved to allow Mr Wilson to put in an application. On the motion' of Mr Bunny, seconded by Mr McCardle, it was decided that all papers bearing ©n the resolutions passed by the Board with reference to the reserve on the west side of the main road opposite the Pahiatua Village Settlement, should be forwarded to the Government, with a request that their resolution be carried out. The meeting then terminated.
