COLLISION OFF THE COAST OF NEW SOUTH WALES.
SERIOUS LOSS OF LIFE.

Sydney, December 9.
The steamers Helen Nicoll and Keilawarra came into collision last night off Trial Bay, on the coast of this Colony. The Keilawarra sank in seven minutes, and the captain and 35 of the crew and passengers went down in her. Three of the Helen Nicoll’s crew are missing. The Keilawarra is a vessel of 1000 tons, and owned by Howard Smith and Sons, Limited.

The Keilawarra was bound from this port to Brisbane, and the Helen Nicoll was coming from Grafton to Sydney. The Keilawarra had twentyfive passengers. The Helen Nicoll was severely damaged by the collision and put into Trial Bay. The names of the Keilawarra’s passengers are as follow: — A family of eight, named Schepper, Mrs Johnston and child, Misses Calan, Gallagher and Bulfin, Messrs Wilson, Copland, A. James, Scott,. Lough, McGrade, McDonald and Nott, and eleven steerage passengers. The names of the saved are Preecß, Barton, Lodge, Greaves, Lough, Copland, A. James, Connolly, Maher, Corby, Sueurr, Gray, Young and Nott, beside others unknown.
