'Vege’ables are brought into Sydney from Wictoria, New‘Zealand, Tasmania, and foreign port?. Then they are brought from up country by rail and steamer, and; lastly they brought from thecuburbs .by. carte, hirst of all tbey:are>imported, and a glance at the ‘Custom-house statistics shows that by no means an inconsiderable quantity arrives in -this way. The following figures show the number of packages simported' from various ports! into New South Wales in the year'lßßs: ■Victoria, “78:578 packages, value £43,064 ; South 1542 packages, value £ll lb; Queensland,'292 packages, value £217 ; Tasmania, 4819 packages, -value 7;®^; packages, value £3129 ; K»ji, packages, value £6.-; Hongkontr. 1286 pack-.; ,a«es, value £1016.; (China, ’136 packages,; value £lo4:;'United Slates, 1860 packages,: value (£794 ; New Caledonia. -161 packages, £230 ; total package?, *96 828 ; total value, i£53,152. The imports of vegetables for the 'firsts months of the current year'have been also supplied us of Oostomp,. Mr J. Powell, the principal figures being as {follow*: —-Victoria-: Onions, MlSton*; potaitoes, ;2hflll tons; green vegetables, 24v376 j packages; total - value, •£129,856. New Zealand: Potatoes, 1525 green vegetables, 2.465 packages-.; total value, £6345. Tasmania: Potatoes 8040 tons.; green vegetables, 3655 total value, £34.456. Total: Onions, T 415 tons; potatoes, ’,143,376 'tons ; green vegetables, -29,4496 (packages; total value, £170,657. These last ffiguers show a fallingciff in the imports for the present year, 483 compared with a corresponding period of la t year. Again, we receive vegetables into < .Sydney to,a considerable extent by (railway; from (Country districts. A peculiar featurean connection with this fact is found in-that these vegetables are sent by Chinese consignors to Chinese consignees,--—Sydney Mail,
