SERIOUS FIRE IN WANGANUI.

(UNITE® PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wanganui, November 29. , A big fire is raging in the Avenue now. Mr Peter Bell’s and Mr Callman’s premises have gone, and it looks bad for the Bank of New Zealand.

Wanganui, November 30. At the fire last night in Victoriaavenue. the shops occupied by Peter Bell, draper, and George Caiman, grocer, were completely gutted. An examination of the buildings discloses the fact that the fire originated, in the corner of Caiman’s shop, where matches were kept. The salvage from both stocks is considerable. The insurances are :—Bell’s—Building, £SOO in the New Zealand, £SOO in the South British, aud £2OO in the Colonial; stock—Union, £IOOO ; Colonial, £BOO ; New Zealand, £SOO ; South British, £SOO. Bell’s stock was valued at at least £7OOO. Caiman’s insurances are—£6so in the Northern; stock, £4OO in the Norwich Union. [Mr Peter Bell’s Victoria House, which has been destroyed, was the most extensive drapery establishment in Wanganui.]
