FIRE IN AUCKLAND.

(united press association.) Auckland, November 26. A fire broke out at 11 o’ciock in an empty four-storied shop in Victoria-street, vacated on Wednesday by Mr Slaney, jeweller, which was destroyed, as well as the premises of Mr Matthew Carr, bootmaker, adjoining. The shops occupied by Mr Schussler, pork butcher, and Mr W. Brown, fish curer, were also damaged in the roof by water. Mr Carr was insured for £342 in the Norwich Union, but the other tenants were uninsured. The block was owned by Mr T. Ball and Miss Duffus. Their insurance iB unknown, as the proprietors reside in the country. The block has been burned down two or three times. Last time Louis Dare, _ a draper, was tried for arson, but was acquitted. November 27.

The insurances on the properties in Vic-toria-street burned last night areas follow Miss Duffus' shop, £4OO ; Ball’s shops, £SOO —both in the Royal office.
