HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

An ordinary meeting of the Hospital Trustees was held yesterday week. Present — Messrs F. H. Fraser (chairman), Williams, Danks, Willeston, Luke, Kebbell, Gaby and Perkins. A letter (in reply to one sent by the Secretary) was received from the Public Works office, stating that the plans and specifications for the additions to the Hospital will probably be ready by the Ist December. The Committee appointed to inquire into the Hospital endowments recommended as follows That eight feet be taken off (as decided upon at the last meeting of the Trustees) sectione 6,7, 8,9, and 10, and eight feet off the rear of the sections fronting the Hospital; that sections 1 2,3, and 4be lengthened by ten feet, and such ten feet be taken off sections 6, 7. 8 and 9 equally ; that £26 per annum be charged for that portion of the endowment upon which a part of the Royal Hotel stands ; that sections 12 and 13, Aurora-terrace, be made into ©ne; that section No. 1, Talaveratorrace, be divided into equal parts; that leases be for a term of 21 years with improvement clauses, if this can be done legally, or ronewal for another 21 years at an advance of 50 per cent, on the rental ; that tho rents bo as follow:—Sections in Tiaakorl-road, 10s per foot per annum; Aurora-terrace, £3O per annum ; Taiaveraterrace, £35 per annum ; Adelaide-road, £ls per section per annum ; Hoapital-road, £ls per acre per annum ; Hospital sections, 9 and 10, £l2 per section per annum, and that all rents be paid half-yearly in advance. The report uas adopted. The House Committee’s report was read and adopted. It stated that the institution had been inspected on tbe 22nd instant, and everything found in a satisfactory state ; that the surgical instruments and fittings for tho dispensary had arrived by the steamer Arawa, and they would be placed at the disposal of the otaff this week. The Committee racommended that a now cupboard be purchased for keeping the instruments in. , Clause 4 of the report Btated that the Committee recommended that a piano be prooured for the use of the institution, the ©ne at present in use being hired only. The Chairman said that the nurses had hired the piano mentioned in the clause, which was a great source of amusement to the patients. The instrument, ho said, wa* not essential for the maintenance of the Hospital, although it was very fiseful for amusing the patients. He thought the piano might be got by public subscriptions, Mr Luke thought it was a good object to appeal to the public upon. After some furthor discussion on the matter, Mr William* moved that the clause read as a “ suggestion ” instead of a recommendation, and that steps be taken to procure a piano for the use of the institution as soon as possible. This waa carried. The Chairman stated that, in accordance with a wish expressed at the laßt meeting of the Trust,- he had gene over the plana of the drainage for the Hospital with Mr Connal, and after considerlag the matter Mr Connal thought it advisable that the whole of the present pipes should be taken up and relaid. He (Mr Connal) said they had been laid with clay instead of being cemented. He (the Chairman) did net think it necessary to proceed with tho work. The question, he said, waa whethor they should expend Hospital fund* on the work when the place was tho property of the Crown. A short discussion took place, and the farther consideration of the matter was referred to tho Public Works Committee. Accounts, certified by the Finance Committee, amounting to £364 0s 4&d, were passed for payment, Mr Gaby gave notice that he would move at the next meeting that the resolution passed re the appointment of an auctioneer for selling the Trust Reserve be rescinded. The Trustees then went into committee.
