LAWN TENNIS TOURNAMENT.

The lewn tennis tournament in aid of the Cricket Association, at Lancaster Park, opened to-day. The play was very good. The heat for the Gentlemen’s singles, in which Mr Fenwick, of Napier, beat Mr Wilding, was exceptionally close and well contested. The following are the results of the principal match :—Gentlemen’s, first round—Mr Milton beat Mr Ross; Mr Jardine beat Mr Kennedy ; Mr Fenwick beat Mr Begge ; Mr Wilding beat Mr Crossland ;Mr Logan, a bye; Mr Spence was scratched ; Mr Grossman had a walk over. Second round —Mr Milton beat Mr Grossman, 6-1 and 6-0 ; Mr Fenwick beat Mr Wilding, 6-5 and 6-3; Mr Jardine beat Mr Logan, 6-4. (Mr Logan retired.) The three winners play the final on Saturday.
