The heats, which are to be rowed on every succeeding evening, beginning from Wednesday, 17th inst., promise to be even more successful and spirited than were those for the Stewart trophies last season. A special general meeting of the Star Boating Club was held at the Club’s shed on Monday afternoon. There were about twenty-five members present, and Mr W. Fitz Gerald (captain) occupied the chair. The object of the meeting was for the purpose of considering the advisableness of ordering two inrigged practice tub pairs. The Chairman moved that the boats, to be locally built, be procured at a cost of not more than £SO. Mr R. B. Smith opposed the motion, remarking that he did not think the funds of the Club would allow the purchase of the boats. Mr E. T. Batkin thought they had better wait for twelve months before they procured any more new boats. On being put, MrFitzGerald’s motion was lost.
