At the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday, Messrs J. E. Smith and C. J. Toxward being the presiding Justices, a woman named Milly McAndrew was fined 5s for drunkenness. A man named Charles Nicholson was charged with vagrancy andpleadednot guilty. Detective Chrystal gave evidence to the effect that the man did no work, and was kept by a prostitute named Murray. Mr Wardell, Resident Magistrate, occupied the bench at the Resident Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning. Jane Dobson, aged 14 years, was charged ■with having used obscene language in Cambridge Terrace on Tuesday morning. The words used were of a disgusting nature. Accused pleaded guilty to the charge, and stated that if she was let off this time she would not use bad language again. His Worship said he was very sorry, but he would have to send her to gaol. Accused was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment. The case against James Moss, for committing a breach of the licensing act, by selling liquor on Sunday, adjourned from Monday for the decision of the Justices, was dismissed. Messrs Eb. Baker and J. R. Blair occupied the bench for this case. Orders were made against James Nilson and Andrew Johnson, for the payment of 15s a week toward the maintenance of their children. A married woman’s protection order was granted'in each case.
