WELLINGTON FOOTBALL CLUB’S SPORTS.

The annual sports in connection with the Wellington Football Club came off at the Newtown Park on Saturday afternoon. There were about 300 spectators on the ground, who showed great interest in the proceedings. His Excellency the Governor visited the ground during the afternoon. Gn arrival His Excellency was greeted with three cheers by the members of the club. The sport was of a moßt interesting character, the fields being large and the events closely contested. The following are the results of the several events :

Drop Kicking.—E. J. Robinson (53yds 2ft), 1; W. Copeland (52yds), 2;G. H. Wallace (51yds 2£t), 3. There were ten other competitors. 100yds, Club Handicap.—lst heat—C. Barry (10yds), 1 ; W. High Jump.—E. Boddington and J. H. Stock each succeeded in clearing sft lin ; J. E. Hume (sft), 2. Six others competed. 100yds Open Handicap.—lst heat—E. Burnes (10yds), 1 ; J. King and Monnoch tied for second place. Time, Second heat—J. H. Stock (syds), 1 ; T. R. Say well (4yds), 2; J. E. Hume (6yds), 3. Time, lOJsee. Final heat —E. Burnes (10yds), 1; J. H. Stock (syds), 2 : Monnoch (scratch), 3. Won by two yards. Time, iOJsee. Tug of War. —Poneke first beat Wellington second; Wellington first beat Athletic first. Final heat —Poneke first beat Wellington first. ' Half-mile Club Handicap.—E. Boddington (25yds), 1; A. Young (scratch), 2. In this event G. Elliott (50yds) came in first, with T. L. Heywood (80yds) led for about 250 yards, when he was collared by Kilner, who won easily by about 10yds. Time, lmin l-sth sec. 120yds Hurdle Handicap.—H. G. Gore (10yds), I; A. Gore (7yds), 2; A. G. Allan (3yds), 3. Seven others started. Time, 19sec. Sack Race.—E. J. Barnett, 1 : T. Pon, 2 ; W. Carig, 3. 220yds Club Handicap.—C. Bary (14yds), 1 ; H. Moss (20yds), 2; C. Richardson (7yds), 3. Thirteen started. Time, 27sec. Three-Legged Race—A. and H. Gore, 1; Hume and Stock, 2; Robinson and'Say* well, 3.

440yds Club Handicap.—C. Bary (20yds), 1 ; R. S. Hirschberg (40yds), 2 ; W. Mills (40yds), 3. The winner led from the start, and won easily. Time, 56sec. Mile Club Handicap.—G. Elliott (80yds), 1; W. G. Baker (40yds), 2; E. Bucholz (90yds), 3. ‘ Six others ran. 'Elliott won by about 4yds. Time, smin lOJsec. The prize for the best made man in the Club fell to W. Copeland, with W. Pike second. There were eight competitors. Messrs C. A. Knapp, M. Barnett and P, P. Webb acted as judges, E. C. Batkin timekeeper, and N. W. Werry officiated as starter.

The prize for the highest aggregate score in the Club handicaps falls to C. Bary, with 12 points ; H. Moss being second, with 8.
