Though Disowned and Lochiel still hold pride of place in the betting, I am inclined to believe more in Torrent or Fusilade to find as the winner of the N. Z. Cup. From the report of a trial recently, lam led to believe that last year’s winner can come again easily, but one of Robinson’s will give him trouble at the finish, if Stead's does not. Moana is reported to have done good work lately, and having been backed to win £2OOO, must not be overlooked. Nelson has been reduced t® slow work recently, consequent on faulty shoeing, which has raised ructions amongst the Riccarton blacksmiths. Lochiel is going grandly, and the Dunedin horses have arrived, including First Lord, and are in capital fettle. Ruby ?md Artillery are still fast favorites for the Derby. Fair Nell and Chantilly have also been backed.
