Sir Saul Samuel, Agent-General for New South Wales, and Sir Francis Dillon Bell, Agent-General for New Zealand, are advocating the establishment in the New Hebrides of au authority which shall be equally agreeable to both the English and French Governments. The diplomatic communications, however, which are passing between the two Governments are confined at present to the proposed withdrawal of French troops from the New Hebrides.

decided at the nest meeting of the Cabinet.

London, September 28. La France declares that the slave ring in New Caledonia is at the bottom of the agitation about the New Hebrides, and advises the avacuation of those islands by France.
