At a meeting of the unemployed a resolution was carried soliciting Government to let the Kuiti contract on the North Island Trunk Railway to the unemployed, in short sections. The City Council has referred the question to the Streets Committee of providing work for the unemployed, by instructing to select works in the city which could be gone on with. Auckland, July 26.

At a meeting of the unemployed this morning angry remarks were made about the Government being so dilatory, and the refusal of the Mayor to start works or address the meeting. It was resolved to send another telegram to the Government that the men are waiting for relief. A committee was appointed to wait on the Mayors of suburban boroughs asking for work. Auckland, July 28. Another large meeting of the unemployed waß held this morning, Mr H. W. Farnall presiding. A telegram was received from the Minister for Public Works offering free passages to Helensville, where the unemployed could mabe-a living .on, the gumfieldß. It was resolved to thank the Minister for the offer, at the same time stating he was misinformed as to the gumfields giving a livelihood. It was alsp resolved to urge the Minister of Bands' to set apart special settlements along the line of the railways made or contemplated, so that the unemployed might settle and work partly on the railway s and partly on the land. At the close of the meeting a procession was formed to the office of the Relieving Officer, who was requested to telegraph to the Government for relief.
