ENGINEERS AND SURVEYORS.

OT THIS EDITOR OF THE NEW /iKA-UAJNu Sir, — I quite agree with the letter signed “James Fraser '* which appeared in your paper this morning ; but do not see how the civil .engineers, architects, and surveyors of Wellington, and the Colony generally, can prevent the Government passing the Civil Service Reform Bill if they choose to do so. X hope, however, that such a monstrously ridiculous Bill will never be passed by the Upper House, for if it should become law, the effect of it would be to drive all good men in the above professions out of the country ; and I am quite certain that they are badly wanted in many positions and places, which are now filled by little better than cadets, who could certainly not have had much experience, more especially in the engineering profession. The principles of the Bill are against all common sense. —I am, &c., C.E.

Wellington, July 20.
