The beer monopoly in the United Kingdom, is increasing. Sixteen years ago the brewery of the United Kingdom were over 32,C00 strong ; six years ago their number fell to 22,000 ; now they number only 18,000, or less than half their strength in 1870. This development of monopoly is attributed to t levying of the duty on beer instead of malt.
