FIRE IN INVERCARGILL.

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Invercargill, June 14. The Shamrock Hotel, in Spey-street, occupied by Thomas Scully, was burned down at 4 o'clock this morning. The firs had obtained a good hold before being noticed, and the inmates had only time to escape in their nightclothes —some by the fire esc ipes_ and others through the windows. One man jumped intoa constable’s arms. He was badly cut m coming through the wiudow, and afterwards fainted. The Brigade were late in reaching the spot, and the supply of water was deficient. The place was soon demolished oulv the walls bein'* left standing, and these were so much damaged that they will have to be pulled down. The origin of the fire is unknown. It broke out io an unoccupied bedroom. Insurances—Building, £7OO in the Victorian and £SOO in the New Zealand ; furniture and effects, £SOO in the Pbcenix.
