The Governor has accepted the services of the Hawera Rifle Cadet Volunteers. Sir William and Lady Fox were passengers by the Te Anau, which sailed for Auckland last Friday evening. The Clerk to the Engiceer*in-Caief has been authorised to frank letters, telegrams, and parcels on the public service, La-t Friday the nominated immigrants for the Te Anau brought up from the South Wellington and Northern districts who arrived by the Doric. The Governor has accepted the resignation of Mr G. W. Hell, of Papanui, and Mr G. B. Owen, of Auckland, of their appointments as Justices of the Peace. Captain and Mrs Wright, who have been in command of the Salvation Army in this city for some monthi past, were passengers by the Te Anau for Auckland last Friday. They go to Auckland to take command of tbe_ Army in that city. A large number of their comrades assembled on the wharf to bid them farewell. There are in Manchester and Salford at least 9000 skilled mechanics constantly en ga<«>d in the production of steam engines, spinning mules, looms and other machinery, chiefly for the manufacture of the various t-.xtde fabrics, whose wages average about 32s each per week, and who require some 2000 laborers to assist thttn.
