WRECK OF THE LY-EE-MOON.

Sydney, June 3

At the coroner’s inquest, held yesterday, on the victims of the Ly-ee-Moon disaster, the jury found that the wreck was caused by gross neglect bub there was not sufficient evidence before them to point out the guilty persons.

Mr Fotheringham, who was in charge of the bridge when the vessel struck, has been arrested on a charge of manslaughter.

Further details with regard to the inquest on the Ly-ee-Moou disaster, state that Captain Lake in his evidence expressed the opinion that the wreck was caused by sheer carelessness on the part of Mr Fotheringham, the second officer, who was in charge of the deck at the time of striking. Fotheringham, on the other hand, asserts that the captain was in charge of the ship at the time, and that he received the course to be steered from him. The evidence was of a very conflicting nature throughout.

It is announced that it is also intended to prosecute the captain of the Lv-ee-Mocn for manslaughter. Up to the present time eleven bodies have been recovered from the wreck.

The steamer bringing the survivors is expected to reach Sydney to-day. Sydney, June 4.

The survivors from the wreck of the Ly-ee-Moon arrived from Green Cape this evening.

Captain Webber and Mr Fotheringham, third officer of the Lye-ee-Moon, have been remanded for a week, charged with feloniously killing iu connection with the wreck of the vessel.

The Marine Board inquiry into the cause of and circumstances attending the wreck of the Ly-ee-Moon com menced to-day. The evidence of Captain Webber was taken. From his statement regarding the course he had directed the third officer to steer it was elicited that the slightest deviation from the set course would result in the wreck of the vessel. Sydney, June 9.

In the course of the inquiry, which was being held to-day by the Marine Board into the circumstances attending the loss of the Ly-ee-Moon, after Captain Webber had given his evidence, and during the examination of Mr Fotheringham, third officer, it was announced that the Judge had granted an injunction preventing the Board from proceeding further with the taking of evidence, as the deponents vYere under a criminal charge of manslaughter. The inquiry was consequently adjourned until Monday next.
