PRESENTATION TO MR. W. HAMILTON.

The subscribers to the Athenmum paid agraceful and well-deserved compliment last; evening week to Mr W. Hamilton, their late* librarian, who has resigned his position in order to accept an appointment in the Old. Country. A large number of the members of the institute attended in No. 4 room, the meeting being presided over by Mr George Allen, president of the Athenseum, who, in &■ few well-chosen words, allnded to the services; Mr Hamilton had rendered to the Athensum during the last seven years, and on behalf of the fubscribers presented an address to> the* recipient. Mr T. K. Macdonald, the bon. treasurer, on behalf of the subscribers, presented Mr Hamilton with a purse containing* 50 sovereigns, as a slight acknowledgment of the recipient’s services to the institution! during the past seven years. Mr Macdonald! remarked that Mr Hamilton had in the perilous times, which happily were passed, carried! the institution through great trouble. He* regretted that Mr Hamilton was leaving the institution and the colony, but he hoped that their guest would ere long return to take his permanent abode in the colony. Mr Hamilton heartily thanked his friends for their kindness. He remarked that he appreciated, their gift not so much for its intrinsic value a 3 for the expression of good will and appreciation, of the services he had rendered in the execution, of his duties as librarian of the Wellington. Athenseum. Mr Hamilton said that he should, ever recollect with pleasure his connection, with the Wellington Athenaeum. The proceedings then terminated.
