WASTE LANDS BOARD.
The fortnightly meeting of the Waste Lands Board was held at the Crown Lands Office at 10 a.m. yesterday. Present, Mr W. A. Marchant (Commissioner of Crown Lands, in the chair), Messrs H. Bunny, W. W. McCardle, Thomas Mason, and G. Beefham, M.H.R. The Chairman reported that no land had been sold since the last meeting of the board. He brought before the board a letter from Mr G. Kumtner regarding the extent and value of the improvements he claimed to have made on Crown lands adjoining his section, and for which he wanted protection. The report of the ranger not having been received, it was resolved on the motion of Mr Beetham, seconded by Mr McCardle, that if possible the Crown land adjoining Mr Rummer’s western boundary be included in the coming land sale for cash, and weighted with the improvements. A letter from the Materton Road Board regarding the proposed expenditure by the Alfredton Road Board of deferred payment thirds from Block VI., Mangaone, on a road leading into sections of that block, was allowed to stand over until the next meeting. A letter was read from the secretary of tbe Pahiatua Road Board relating to the expenditure of deferred payment thirds in Pahiatua Block. It was resolved that the Pahiatua Board’s proposals be agreed to, excepting the proposal to expend the money from the deferred payment sections 25 and 27, Block VIII., and those regarding the .whole of the line to Tiraumea. An application was received from Mr John Hall to have his future instalments on section 27, Block VIII., Mangaho, capitalised, which was granted. The Chairman reported that the Sheep Department objected to their inspectors doing rangers’ work, and that he was writing to ask. Mr Robinson, ranger at New Plymouth, if he coaid undertake a monthly inspection in the Wellington district. The Chairman laid before the Board copies of the advertisement relative to the coming land sale, and on the motion of Mr Bunny, it was agreed to amend the clause relative to the right of purchase, so as to show at what price the selector would be able to purchase on fulfilment of conditions. The board approved of the advertisement as amended and of the dates fixed, which are published elsewhere, and it was agreed to have a revised notice of the sale for advertising in the papers ready by the next meeting, the leasing advertisement to be proceeded with at once. The Chairman reported that he had engaged the Institute at Masterton for the sale, and the meeting adjourned.
