A telegraph station has been opened at Makikihi, County Geraldine. Referring to Mr. Thomas Dick's accessionto the Ministry, the Otago Daily Times says that " although it will cause some little surprise to those who had looked upon Mr. Dick'srefusal of office as absolute and final, in all other respects his acceptance of office is only right and natural, and the Ministry will, in securing him, have obta'ned the services of an upright and corsistent member of the House, and one whose former official should render him a good departmental chief. Otago is now fittingly represented in the Government by men of character and firmness, and if Mr. Dick adds nothing in the way of eloquence to the Government benches, his" presence in the Ministry at least affords one additional guarantee against land-jobbery and sharp in'actioes such as the astute Mr. Whitaker is, justly or unjustly, understood to favor. We heartily wish Mr. Dick a successful career in his new and honorable post. It remains to be seen what Auckland member is added to the Cabinet, and we will only express our hope that it may notbe Mr. Reader Wood. .
