At the Hutt Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, before Mr Mansford, a man named Charles Edwards was charged with neglecting to support his child. It appeared that the child had been deserted by its mother, and that another woman had been taking charge of it. The defendant expressed his willingness to take the child back, and, under the circumstances, no order was made against him. Henry Ackerman was charged, by his sister, Mrs. Jane Webb, with using insulting language to her last Tuesday week, and the charge having been proved, defendant was ordered to pay the costs of the information, and was also bound over to keep the peace, in his own surety of £lO, and two sureties of £5 each.
