The Melbourne Argus does not speak in very glowing terms of Mr. J. C. Williamson's Pinafore Troupe which opened on Feb. 14 at the Theatre Royal. Miss Maggie Moore's Josephine is condemned in toto, and they compare Miss Leaf, as Buttercup, unfavorably with her predecessors. Mr. Riccardi is praised, being described as a success, but Mr. Hardiog's Captain Corcoran is not rapturously spoken of. In fact, according to the Argus, Mr. Rainford's Dick Dead-Eye was about the only musical success. There was a crowded house. Application has been made at the Colonial Secretary's Office, Dunedin, for registration by A. H. Shelton, of a trade mark for boots and shoes, such mark being a shield, containing two parallel lines from top to bottom, and two parallel lines from side to side. Between the upright lines the word " solid " appears, and between the lines across the word " value ; " the letter "L " of each word being placed in a square in the centre of the lines ; the word " solid" reading downwards, and the woid " value " across the shield. In the left-hand corner of the shield is placed a [capital letter " S." "I have been for some years past a great suffere from spasmodic asthma. A friend kindly sent me a box of GrimauWs Indian Cigarettes ; I found them quite effectual, and much more agreeable, and less irritating than the other preparations of that kind hitherto known.— W. Little, Manchester."
