A sitting of the Supreme Court, hi its bankruptcy jurisdiction, was held before his Honor the Chief Justice on Tuesday, when the deeds of assignment in the following estates were assented to :—F. C. ICreeft, J. Huxley, H. Austin, and W. S. Falconer, Wellington ; and W. A. lliddick, Johnsonville. U. Jacobowitch, tailor, Willis-street, applied for his final discharge, which was granted. A landslip occurred at the rear of Mr. 11. Bennett’s Commercial Hotel, in Willis-street, at about five o’clock on Sunday morning. Some hundreds of tons must have fallen down, aud the sound of the crash was something similar to that from a battery of artillery. Fortunately no damage was done. It would be well if some plans were adopted for sowing the slopes of these terraces with gorse, or some plant which would have the uifect of holding together these clayey banks, which must be a constant source of danger to those unfortunate enough to be in close proximity to them. “ Mac,” of the Hartford Timex, writing from Washington, says:—“The ‘original speechwriters,’ a class of literary gentlemen who make a living by furnishing speeches to order to members of Congress, have been quite busy of late. One of these gentlemen furnished six speeches on the Army Appropriation Bill. He has already got one up on the disputed points in the Legislative Bill, and has orders for four more. These speeches are among the best that will be delivered on the Bill, and, besides being well filled with flowers, are stored with facts and more information that a new Congressman could gather in a month.”
