TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND MAIL. Sir, —Had the late Mr. James Giliigan beeiEia. settler iu any part of Australia his lamented! death would have occasioned a whole column, in the Australasian and other newspapers, commenting upon his unostentatious performances on the turf, his keen love of sport, and his persevering and liberal endeavors to promote it on all occasions, never tiring; and when beaten in racing never disheartened, but ruuniug again and again. His well-known form will be missed on the Hutt Racecourse next month by his numerous friends. A more kindly man never lived, always ready to lend a hlpiDg hand to those who required it.—l am, &c., W.
