PAHAUTANUI SCHOOL TREAT.

(irBOM OUR OWN COKBBSPONDKNT.) The annual tea meeting for the Pahautanui school children was held on Boxing Day. The arrangements were made by the local committee, who di I all in their power to make the day pass off pleasantly. The teacher and the Horokiwi Valley school children were invited, and also Mr. Toomath, a member of the Education Board. Over 100 children sat down to a very excellent tea, which was supplied by Mr. Fred Bills, and after they had left the table their places were- taken by the parents and friends of the children, who assembled in great numbers. The Pahautanui brass hand was on the ground, and played several lively airs, which tended to enliven the scene. The room was decorated with evergreens and flowers and flags. There was also a banner with an inscription, which was tastefully exe•uted by Mr. Singer, the master of the Pahautanui school. The inscription was as follows : — u Welcome Horokiwi ; and to all a merry Christinas and a happy ne>v year." Attur the tea was over the great point of attraction was •a Christm:is-tree at one end of the building, which was decorated and loaded with presents for the children. These presents consisted of many useful and ornamental articles, which were made and provided by some of the parents and friends of the children, who deserve praise and thanks for their kindness. The day passed off very agreeably, and the party broke up about seven o'clock.
